God, My Father
Most of the time when we hear the word father it is a good thing. While I realize that this is certainly not the case for every person I am so thankful to have a great relationship with my earthly father. When I think of who my dad is so many thoughts come to mind- a man of great character, a provider for my family, a teacher, his constant love for us, his patience and dedication to establishing our home as a Godly one and so many other things. Therefore, being able to call God my Father is of great comfort to me.
It reminds me that God is not some far away deity that I am unable to approach. While He demands great respect, he is not beyond my reach. When I fail I am able to call to him for help. He offers me correction out of love because he longs for me to follow him {Proverbs 3:12} and he desires to teach me his ways. He has surrounded me with his creation that shows me I can trust him in every way {Matthew 6:25-26}. He is father to the fatherless {Psalm 68:5} and defender of the weak.
Regardless of the earthly fathers we may have I am overwhelmed with gladness that we have a heavenly Father who loves us and chose us.
