Memorization

Each week Anna and I have held each other accountable for memorizing Scripture. Being intentional about hiding the Truth of God in my heart has been a great growing experience for me, one that I plan to take home and implement into my daily life. My verse for this week:

'This is what the Lord says: "Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows me that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight," declares
the Lord." Jeremiah 9:23-24

May my boast always be the Lord. I have nothing else to value but him. In the book I am currently reading 'When I don't desire God: how to fight for joy' by John Piper it talks about how the only way we can receive joy is seeing and living for God's glory. That there is no joy apart from the cross. "This is why we exist- to see, and rejoice in and reflect the value of the glory of God." I can become so easily blinded by the things of this world. Caught up in the desires of the flesh when God's Word commands that our only boast be in understanding and knowing Him. The only way we can fully know and understand God is by understanding the power of the cross and the magnitude of the sacrifice made on that tree. Just some quiet reflections this morning.

There is NO joy apart from the cross. And my heart has just been breaking for those who don't have that joy because they don't have Jesus. They seek to fill this longing for joy and peace in their life for all that the world tells them is needed for joy, for contentment, for fulfillment. I am hurting today for these people.

There is no joy apart from the cross.
