While we as people can exhibit love, God IS love. He created love and the Word says that love is WHO he is. Because of him are we able to experience or give love at all. It is not in our own doing but in His.
"This is love, not that we loved God, but that He loves us and sent His Son as an
atoning sacrifice for our sins." 1 John 4:10
"We love because he first loved us." 1 John 4:19
"Dear friends, let us love one another,
for love comes from God." 1 John 4:7
He shows His love for us in many ways, the greatest of which is His son. Sent to earth to save us.
"For God so loved the World that He gave his one and only son
that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16
Because God cannot contradict Himself his actions and response to us are out of love- even His judgement and wrath. He longs for all to be saved and all to come to saving acceptance of Who Christ is.
Today I am rejoicing in the fact that God has shown love to me! I am so unworthy and yet still He loves me. Unworthy to be called His child, unworthy of the grace that has been given to me. And yet, in His great love for me (and you) He extends these gifts to me anyway.
"How great is the love the Father has lavished on us,
that we should be called children of God!" 1 John 3:1
